hurtigruten has opened
up the naming rights to its new
expedition vessel via a new
public competition, with the ship
temporarily dubbed MS Norway
Explorer in the short term.
The ship will take the place of
the MS Midnatsol, which has
been deployed to sail Antarctica
alongside MS Fram (CW 26 May)
for the coming summer season.
Guidelines for the contest are
that the ship must be preceded
with the initial ‘MS’ which stand
for Motor Vessel in nautical terms.
Names must also utilise a
Norwegian word, or be named
after natural phenomena, places
visited by Hurtigruten or major
figures in the country’s history.
Entries can be posted on the
line’s Facebook page by 10 Aug.
