A 24-HOUR strike by Customs
and Border Protection staff at
airports and cruise terminals is
expected to cause major delays
for holiday-makers either heading
overseas or arriving in Australia
over the Easter holiday period.
The Community and Public
Sector Union (CPSU) issued a
statement on its site, urging its
members who are employees of
the Department of Immigration
and Border Protection to
participate in protected industrial
action from today.
βWhile the likely level or
participation is unknown, we
strongly encourage airline and
cruise ship passengers to plan
for potential delays by arriving at
international airports and cruise
ship terminals even earlier over
the next few weeks,β read the
statement.
The strikes and stoppages are
expected to last between six to
eight hours at a time.
