A BRITISH tourist has been
rescued at sea by a fisherman,
after attempting to swim out
to a cruise ship she believed her
husband was on board.
The 65-year-old was identified
as Susan Brown, and was found
after midnight 500 metres out to
sea, clutching only her handbag.
She told police that she was
on board a 32-night cruise with
her husband, but decided to fly
home early after an argument,
when it stopped over for the day
in Madeira.
The couple became separated
at the airport, and “feeling
desperate”, Brown decided
to make a swim for it, diving
into the ocean to chase after a
passing cruise ship thinking her
husband might’ve been board.
Police have since confirmed
Brown’s husband boarded a
flight to Bristol, England.
A cruise spokesman told news.
com.au that a flight was booked
for the couple, as was a taxi to
the airport.
Brown was taken to hospital
where she was treated for
advanced hypothermia before
being moved to a psychiatric
ward for further observation.
