PHILIPPE Videau, one of the co-founders of Ponant Cruises, has announced the launch of a new cruise line called Exploris, with the venture’s first vessel currently sailing with Silversea as Silver Explorer.
Exploris opened an office in Paris just after the start of the year, with Videau one of several former merchant navy officers who established Compagnie du Ponant in 1998 before selling it to private equity firm Bridgepoint in 2012, with the line subsequently bought by its current owners, the Pinault family.
Explorer has been sold to Exploris, but will not change hands until late next year meaning its planned Silversea 2023 Kimberley season is expected to still go head.
