Our first day of Antarctic action is taking place at Half Moon Bay in the South Shetland Islands, where upon arrival the Viking team quickly deployed the two on-board submarines, Zodiacs, and Special Operations Boats.
A shore landing gave guests the opportunity to catch their first sight of penguins, with chinstraps and gentoos frolicking around a nesting area and struggling up and down a “penguin highway” to their feeding ground.
The first contingent of divers was able to head beneath the surface in the six-passenger submersibles, while there was high speed jet boat action aplenty on the Special Operations Boats as they cruised past the icy landscapes.
