WITH Joel Katz, MD, CLIA Australasia – Campaigning for cruise: In recent weeks we’ve been hearing positive feedback from travel advisors and other supporters who have joined our lobbying efforts in support of a cruise resumption.
They include supporters who have been successful in meeting with their local Members of Parliament as part of our Ready, Set, Sail campaign, giving them an opportunity to highlight the personal impact of the current cruise suspension and reinforce our calls for action.
It’s clear a growing number of MPs agree a detailed plan for cruising is needed urgently and our industry’s new health protocols provide an opportunity for a careful, phased resumption in Australia as vaccination rates rise.
Several have offered to raise the issue with senior parliamentary colleagues and others have provided valuable feedback that will help us in our advocacy efforts.
All this helps support the ongoing work that CLIA and our cruise line members are doing, targeting key ministers and government agencies as we lobby for a path forward.
Our Ready, Set, Sail campaign has now generated close to 50,000 emails from travel advisors and other supporters.
