A deer has been rescued from an ice-covered Ontario lake, with perhaps very little understanding of how close it came to perishing.
A Canadian man was heading home when he spotted the deer curled up in the middle of Blake Sturgeon Lake, almost 500 metres from the shore.
The man and his friend used a rope and a paddleboard to rescue the young deer, which began to panic upon its capturing, punching holes in the ice and endangering both rescuers and rescuee.
Despite taking about an hour to get the deer back to shore, crossing perilously thin ice while doing so, all three made it back to dry land, perhaps a little bit more distressed than before.
