A naval mine has washed up on a popular Florida beach.
A Broward County Sheriff’s deputy patrolling on the stretch of sand made the unexpected discovery at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Beach.
The mine had the word “inert” written on it, indicating it was likely a dummy mine for training purposes, but experts said the word is not a guarantee that the mine isn’t an active explosive.
The Sheriff’s bomb squad and Air Force personnel were summoned to the scene, and they relocated the mine.
