CANAL holidays in the United Kingdom were peaking pre-pandemic, but one of these narrowboats has recently served a different purpose.
The aptly named Piano Boat, currently moored just outside London in Uxbridge, recently served as a floating concert hall for classical performances.
Captain Masayuki Tayama, the house pianist of Piano Boat, told Reuters the vessel was the only one of its kind.
Tayama played a program including Ludwig van Beethoven and Robert Schumann to an enthusiastic audience in evening dress, seated around tables covered in white tablecloths.
The project’s manager Rhiana Henderson said the idea came about when they were living on a narrowboat with a digital piano that was drawing interest from passersby, which has since developed into a number of fully booked holidays.
