MORNINGTON Yacht Club has drifted into stormy seas recently amid unhappiness over “misogynistic and offensive” boat names bequeathed by some of the regatta’s younger members.
The Age has reported complaints have been made about boats with names such as Himalayan Women, Screaming Seamen, and Big Black Tiller, which amuse some of the Club’s younger sailors.
Although private yachts have a strong tradition of double entendres, a Club spokesperson told The Age a chat has been had with some of the “comedians”.
“We’re looking at developing a code of conduct when it comes to boat names, so if there’s any kind of obvious double meaning…we can point to the rules and say no”.
